with Hiring of Santos as Baseball Coach
Hyannis, MA – June 21, 2010 – Pope John Paul II High School announces the hiring of Mark A. Santos as head baseball coach at the Hyannis school. The three-year old school is a member of the newly formed Cape & Islands League. They will begin playing varsity baseball next spring after two years playing a JV schedule.
Santos replaces Paul “Spanky” Demanche who left to become the athletic director and head football coach at Harwich High School.
Coach Santos previously coached at Algonquin Regional High School and most recently coached the Cape Cod Sharks 14 & under AAU baseball team and in the Falmouth Youth Baseball League.
“I knew nothing about Pope John Paul II High School until I attended a presentation for prospective families in the fall. They blew me away. I was completely impressed,” Mr. Santos stated. “In the spring, I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of the school when I saw an ad looking for candidates to coach baseball.”
JPII Head of School Mr. Christopher Keavy added, “During the interview, I knew that the baseball knowledge was present. But, I was more impressed with his approach to building young men of character, compassion, and conscience. It’s another great find for our young school.”
Mr. Santos owns his own insurance agency in Buzzards Bay and lives in North Falmouth with his wife and two children.
